What they are saying about us

Collaboration is one of core values of Walter P. Carter Elem/Middle, and CCSB embodies that value. We have been able to partner up this last school year to secure supplies, uniforms, books, and read alouds for our scholars. Without hesitation CCSB has heard our needs and gathered together to support us. We are so appreciative of this partnership and our scholars are truly benefiting. Over the summer CCSB donated books to our students in the summer programs. The smiles on their faces when they realized they not only saw characters and stories they relate to, but that they also were able to bring them home to their own libraries was amazing.

Ashley Antonsen, Community School Director, Walter P. Carter Elementary/Middle School

Our success as a school is directly correlated to the amount of caring adults we can expose to our scholars.  Support from CCSB has not only provided us with much needed practical resources to support our work but also with many individual role models and mentors who enrich the lives of our scholars.

Laurel Freedman, Executive Director, Lillie May Carroll Jackson Charter School

We have had the pleasure of partnering with The Christ Child Society for two years and we have been thrilled with all of the opportunities that they helped us provide for our middle school girls. All of the activities have been age- appropriate and have enhanced our curriculum. The instructors and members of the society are very caring and concerned that the girls be engaged in the learning process and have fun as well. They also have been a tremendous service to our school by sending books our way for our middle school girls to enjoy! The girls love to read and to have a book they can call their own is truly a gift!

Sr. Debbie Liesen SSND, Principal – Sisters Academy of Baltimore

It has been a true pleasure to work with the Christ Child of Baltimore organization. We began our relationship in January 2021. Ginger Galvez explained that their goal was to build home libraries for each student. They have done more than that. Faithfully every month each child receives a book for their home library. Our Spanish speaking families are given books in Spanish.

CCSB has connected many wonderful resources to our school. The connection they gave us with Enoch Pratt Library gave our parents training in the importance of reading to your children. Each parent that participated in that program received books and a tablet for their child. This year Enoch Pratt gave Chrome books to all of our Kindergarten students.

I could go on and on about CCSB. They provided now a Healthy Eating program from Giant Food with our families. The students receive books about healthy eating, reusable shopping bags, and healthy eating plates that show the amount of food your child should receive from each food group. CCSB also provided a dental hygiene program from The University of Maryland Dental School for students and their families. Our students have received books, and toothbrush and toothpaste kits.

In March a member of CCSB dressed up as the Cat in the Hat and read the book to our students. Each child received a Dr. Seuss book and goodie bag. This year CCSB donated $500 so our teachers could purchase school supplies.

Having a partner like Christ Child is priceless. I pray that God continues to bless this organization.

Sharon Wheaden-West, Executive Coordinator, The Loyola School

Your continuous commitment to our agency has been nothing short of miraculous. Christ Child Society is a very interesting program that offers compelling value to helping children and women in need.

Donna Carter, Nyame-Caseworker – Druid House Transitional Housing Program

Mother Seton Academy can’t express the depth of our gratitude enough for the support we have received from Christ Child Society. Our students have benefited from the supplies and books that have been donated. Our students have grown in self-confidence thanks to the bullying awareness campaign and fitness experiences provided by Christ Child Society. And always, no matter the amount of time or resources Christ Child Society brings to us, our students are always at the center of their efforts. The entire Mother Seton Academy family is truly grateful.

Richard Gudel, Principal – Mother Seton Academy

We are very excited about our new partnership with Christ Child Society of Baltimore! They are organizing fitness events, dental health assemblies, and volunteer Book Buddies for our students. Our students received books to take home to help build their own personal libraries. The Christ Child Society has touched the hearts of the Faculty at Holy Angels Catholic School and they have made a difference in the lives of our students by their presence. They are sharing their time and talent with us, and we are humbled by their kindness. They are a true example of Christian love.

Kathleen Filippelli, Principal – Holy Angels Catholic School

On behalf of the Stork’s Nest at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, I would like to thank CCSB for the wonderful work that you have been doing to help keep our Nest stocked with new infant care items. Our program uses an incentive system to encourage participates to attend educational classes, prenatal care appointments, and adopt healthy behaviors. With an emphasis on engaging pregnant women who do not receive regular prenatal care, our goal is to prevent premature births, low birth weight babies and infant mortality. We are grateful for the tremendous support of the Christ Child Society of Baltimore as the Stork’s Nest relies on the generosity of community members to keep the Nest stocked.

Catherine McCabe, Senior Development Coordinator - Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center

The staff at Heritage Early Learning Center is so very excited about our partnership with Christ Child Society of Baltimore! Our students have received books to enjoy over the summer because of the generosity of their Book Buddies program. Some of our students with special needs have enjoyed playing with the housekeeping set and dress-up items received from donations. I look forward to Book Buddies volunteers developing meaningful relationships with our students and staff throughout the upcoming school year.

Erika Parker, Educational Associate, Early Learning Programs – Baltimore City Public Schools

Just think of a child who knows there are people behind them, not just people sending in a (monetary) contribution, but people who give their time and talents in a personal way. Their giving and support is relational and personal. All 59 Sisters Academy students were touched by the Baltimore Chapter during the 2012-13 school year. They see a need and they go in and make something happen.

Sister Delia Dowling, SSND, President – Sisters Academy of Baltimore

We are very excited about working with The Christ Child Society of Baltimore. They not only helped us put together an anti-bullying program for our students with keynote speaker, First Lady Katie O’Malley, but they have done a lot of other things-donated over 1,000 children’s books, read to Pre-K students monthly with their Book Buddies Program, and launched a wellness curriculum last year on the topics of oral health, nutrition, and career awareness with professional speakers that reached over 700 participants.

Mark Bongiovanni, Principal – Armistead Gardens School

The Christ Child Society has been a tremendous partner in our efforts to assist families as they move towards stabilizing and living violence-free. They have provided our families with items such as books, clothing, and layettes. Receiving the wonderful items in the layettes from The Christ Child Society brings smiles and tears to the new moms and offers hope that tomorrow may hold something better for them. This can be a life changing event.

By providing layettes and My Stuff bags you are telling our moms and children that they are not alone. Most importantly, you are offering them a kind and gentle moment to smile and enjoy warm thoughts…. The blankets are so soft!  They bury their faces in them. Some cry and some sigh. All are extremely grateful for the help.

Rebecca Foster, Shelter Director – Family Crisis Center of Baltimore County

The Hampden Family Center was very fortunate to have worked with volunteers from The Christ Child Society last year in the after-school enrichment program and the ‘Study Buddy’ program. Their commitment and dedication to volunteerism at the Family Center was tremendous — for children to work with the same person(s) on a weekly basis has a very powerful impact on their lives — they develop important relationships with these volunteers and from my observations the children have benefited greatly.

Lisa Ghinger, Executive Director — Hampden Family Center

It has been a pleasure to work alongside The Christ Child Society of Baltimore in our efforts to serve Maryland’s children. The Baltimore Chapter works diligently to address bullying in our schools and communities, educate our children about health and wellness, and enhance literacy-demonstrating a true commitment to create the better, stronger future our children deserve.

Katie O'Malley, Former First Lady of Maryland

Many of our clients at Turn Around are young mothers and children who have survived extreme abuse and violence. These families often have a great need for basic care items. The donations from The Christ Child Society like diapers, infant clothing, and other baby items have been greatly appreciated by the survivors we serve.

Amelia Rubenstein, LGSW, Social Worker & Advocacy Coordinator — The Anti-Trafficking Program, Turn Around, Inc.

Besides donating many children’s books monthly to Our Daily Bread for the Family Dining Room, which the children greatly enjoy reading and taking home, some members of The Christ Child Society are providing a homemade meat and potatoes casserole on the first Wednesday of the month. This has been so very helpful due to the immense need at this soup kitchen.

Carol Wallace, Our Daily Bread Volunteer Coordinator — St. Pius Church

The Arc Baltimore is thrilled to be partnering with The Christ Child Society in assisting families that have children with developmental disabilities. We have been able to use the donated gently-used toys and books for the children, ranging from infant-teens, during our parent support group meetings. We have also received some items that families are able to take with them for home-use. Many parents are unable to work due to the severity of their child’s disability and it is often difficult for them to meet basic needs. They are so grateful for the things we have been able to provide for them through The Christ Child Society’s generosity.

Dianna Morgan, Family and Children Specialist — The Arc Baltimore

Pregnancy Center North is most grateful for the generosity of The Christ Child Society, who have given us many donations-layettes, baby and maternity clothes, and parenting books which have helped us serve women and families in Baltimore. Our center is sustained by community groups who enable us to touch the lives of women in need, as well as their babies.

Cindi Ritter, Executive Director — Pregnancy Center North

Christ Child Society of Baltimore has been a tremendous blessing to Mother Seton Academy. They donated hundreds of books to strengthen the school library. Our students’ faces lit up when they saw the new titles that would be added to our collection. Christ Child Society’s generosity did not end there; they have reached out to meet our students’ needs with donations and with the precious gift of time, serving as volunteers and collaborating with us to plan future workshops for students as well as parents/guardians. What a gift to the school and to each of our students!

Laura Peterson Minakowski, Principal – Mother Seton Academy

Christ Child Society has been and continues to be instrumental in providing care and support to the families at Sarah’s Hope, Hannah More that are pregnant or have young babies. In addition to the layettes which include essential items for newborns, CCSB members have come on site for two baby showers here at Hannah More. The baby showers have given our women hope, encouragement and a chance to reflect, learn and grow in excitement about their little one. We are grateful and continue to be grateful for the immense support.

Laura Starsoneck, Volunteer Coordinator Sarah’s Hope at Hannah More Women & Children’s Homeless Shelter

Thank you SO much for the 400 books you have given us to give away at our Family Literacy Night at Armistead Gardens Elementary Middle School. We are so happy to partner with CCSB, especially our Pre-K kiddies who SO look forward to the monthly readings with your volunteer Book Buddies. They LOVE getting to take home a free book every month to read with their families.
